Winnie-The-Pooh Cast

The cast for Winnie-The-Pooh are pictured here with their favorite stuffed animals based on the story.

Look Who Is Turning 80!

Winnie-the-Pooh for one is 80 this year, and the Sherman Community Players that began in 1926 as the Sherman Little Theater is also turning 80 this year. In celebration of these two great milestones, Theatricks will be continuing this long tradition by producing the play WINNIE-THE-POOH July 7 through July 16, 2006 at the Honey McGee Playhouse located at 313 West Mulberry Street in Sherman, Texas.

The play WINNIE-THE-POOH is based on the book by A.A. Milne, and adapted by Kristen Sergel with music by Allan Friedman. For those of you who may not know (which I doubt) Winnie-the-Pooh is Christopher Robin's fat little "bear of very little brain" who would like to drift peacefully through life, humming tunes and stopping frequently to eat "a little something." However, he finds himself involved in all sorts of frantic adventures, assisted by such friends as Eeyore, Piglet, Owl, and Rabbit, along with his countless relations—especially when word of something terrible is coming to the Hundred Acre Woods and bringing a bar of soap along with her. Something must be done! A.A. Milne's wit and special understanding of young people make this one of the most successful plays for the entire family!

Starring in Theatricks production of WINNIE-THE-POOH will be a cast of 21 very talented individuals that bring to the Theatricks stage some familiar faces as well as many new ones. Jon Reynolds will be playing the title role of Winnie-the-Pooh along with Anna McGowan as Christopher Robin, and Zeke Dolezalek as the Narrator's Voice. Pooh's friends consist of Natalia Wojciechowski as Piglet, Melissa Ross as Rabbit, Daniel Clark as Eeyore, and Christian McGowan as Owl. Kanga and baby Roo are played by Theresa Littlefield and Raya Ghozeil.

The cast is rounded out by a host of Rabbit's relations and friends played by Olivia Tackett, Joshua Stephens, Krystina Burns, Walter Mitchell, Sheridan Scott, Autumn Winegarden, Daniel Hebert, Laney Ortel, Madalyn Teague, Brianna Wiese, Brittany Snow, and Aurora Winegarden.

WINNIE-THE-POOH is being directed by Theatricks Director Webster Crocker assisted by Cheryl Lewis as Vocal Instructor and Cathy Sauls on piano. Choreographer for WINNIE-THE-POOH is Amy Dean. The characters will all be brought to life on stage with the help of Theatricks costumers Betty Harper and Tammi Daubenspeck along with their assistants from the Supporting Cast Kaylea Daubenspeck, Elise Hebert, and Jessica Highlander. Lighting and Sound will be operated by Eric Wiese and Jessica Highlander.

The box office for WINNIE-THE-POOH will open on Monday July 3 from 10 am to 2 pm for Theatricks season members and Wednesday, July 5 from 10 am to 2 pm for the general public. Reservations can be made on those days by calling the box office at (903) 892-8818 or coming by the Honey McGee Playhouse at 313 West Mulberry Street.

WINNIE-THE-POOH is the last show of Theatricks 2005-2006 season, and is generously sponsored by Red River Nephrology Associates.

Video Workshop

Mike Marlow
Mike Marlow goes over the different types of microphones during the video workshop.

On Friday, June 2 from 10 am to 4 pm, Mike Marlow SCP's resident photographer and videographer taught a video workshop for the teen group the Supporting Cast.

In the workshop attendees learned everything from what equipment to use and how to use it, camera angles and composition, and directing the videography of a production. Mike prepared a detailed booklet on the various topics that each attendee received, and even got to practice the topics taught through hands-on experience.

Mike set up a three-camera shoot for the first time during Theatricks' production of LITTLE WOMEN using members of the Supporting Cast for the technicians, and he plans on doing the same for the production of WINNIE-THE-POOH.

What a privilege for the Supporting Cast members to have an opportunity like this to learn from a skilled master like Mike Marlow what is available for them in the communication and media career fields.

The Supporting Cast attended the last dress rehearsal of SCP Mainstage's production of ANNIE for their June meeting, and will next meet on Thursday, July 13 at 6 pm in the Honey McGee Playhouse. Bring T-shirt designs to this meeting for one design will be selected for the Supporting Cast shirt.

On the Road with Elizabeth Geddis

Elizabeth Geddis is the volunteer that we want to highlight this month. Elizabeth is a devoted box office worker recruited years ago by SCP Box Office Chairman Mary Ann Sanwald.

Elizabeth is a devoted volunteer not only to SCP, but she volunteers at the Sherman Public Library and with her church St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Sherman. Ten years ago Elizabeth decided that she wanted a little more out of her involvement with SCP, so she joined Theatricks touring group Theatricks-On-The-Go for their performance of THE UGLY DUCKLING. Elizabeth hadn't done any acting since her high school years giving it up when she married Glenn Geddis and entered the working world. However, it all came back to her since that initial show, and she has been involved ever since.

She has performed in a variety of known fairy tales and tall tales: JACK AND THE BEANSTALK, KING MIDAS AND THE GOLDEN TOUCH, JOHNNY APPLESEED, PAUL BUNYAN, THE GRASSHOPPER AND THE ANTS, OH MY DARLING, CLEMENTELLA, and many more. For three years she even shared the experience with her husband Glenn who was retired from Braniff Airlines as he too joined the travel show cast.

The shows are 30 minutes in length, and are performed in elementary schools in over four counties: Grayson, Collin, Fannin, Cooke, and Dallas. These shows also include audience participation and is a part of Theatricks educational outreach program, Project Theatre that was started in the fall of 1989 by Webster Crocker, Theatricks Director. "Theatricks travel group has tried to involve a variety of community members as actors in the traveling show Theatricks-On-The-Go with college students, stay-at-home moms, retirees, and homeschoolers. Most however, do it for only a little while before moving on to something else. We are very fortunate to have someone like Elizabeth who has been doing it for so long and so well. She has even told me that she isn't done yet for she will be back in the fall." states Webster Crocker, Theatricks Director.

Thank you, Elizabeth!
