Seasons Greetings from SCP

On behalf of SCP and Theatricks, I wish to express our many thanks to all who have made the SCP organization such a wonderful program for all from actors, technicians and designers, musicians, directors, season members and audience members, sponsors, advertisers and patrons.

SCP was started over 75 years ago in the 1920's as the Sherman Little Theater and later incorporated as the Sherman Community Players in 1950. Here at SCP, we really believe that community is very special to this organization, and that is why we made it our middle name. Thank you for letting SCP be a part of your community!

We would also like to make this our Christmas card to you, and wish you all a wonderful and happy holiday season!

Arsenic and Old Lace cast

The cast for ARSENIC AND OLD LACE.

Supporting Cast One-Acts Are Well-Done!

November 10, 11, 12, 2006, Theatricks teen theater group known as the Supporting Cast performed their one-acts of ARSENIC AND OLD LACE and SORRY, WRONG NUMBER to three houses of very appreciative audience members (160 in all). The entire production from start to finish was done by the Supporting Cast members. This was the first of its kind, and we hope will be followed by more of this type of production in the future.

Sorry, Wrong Number cast

The cast for SORRY, WRONG NUMBER.

The money raised from the tickets sold ($800) will be used to help set up a scholarship fund that will be awarded to a worthy Supporting Cast member who plans to major in theatre in college. Specifics on the scholarship fund are still being worked out, but this is a step in the right direction.

The Supporting Cast is now in the process of reading scripts and helping Theatricks Director Webster Crocker select a season of shows for 2007-2008. If anyone has a suggestion, let a Supporting Cast member know. Also, the Supporting Cast would like to hear from past members and feature a story on what they are doing now. If you are or know of one, please help in our endeavor to gather the information needed to report on them.

Season Memberships Hit an All Time High!

pirate and Captain Hook

Pirate in training Drew Crocker plays a tune on his violin for Captain Hook portrayed by Harris Tooley.

SCP's Theatricks and Mainstage 2006-2007 season memberships have nearly doubled over last season leading to record attendance for the first three shows of the new season: PETER PAN, HARVEY, and SANDERS FAMILY CHRISTMAS. What a great way to start off the season, but with this success comes a few problems but nothing that can't be chalked up to growing pains.

Sanders Family Christmas scene

Vera Sanders (Cheri Anderson) says goodbye to her son Dennis Sanders (William Stell) before he heads off to war in the SANDERS FAMILY CHRISTMAS.

SCP/Mainstage had to add additional performances of the SANDERS FAMILY CHRISTMAS just to accommodate all of the new season members and still have some seats available for the general public. The all volunteer box office staff has had to work overtime trying to make sure that everyone who desires to see each and every show has the opportunity to do so and that there are few if any no shows or mistakes. This is not always an easy task, and if you don't believe us then volunteer to work the box office the first week it opens and you will realize what a wonderful and dedicated box office staff SCP really has working for them.

Theatricks Director Webster Crocker to Teach at Austin College in the Spring of 2007

Webster Crocker, who graduated from Austin College in 1987 with a bachelor degree in Communication Arts and Fine Arts and later a masters degree from Oklahoma State University in Speech/ Theatre, has been asked to teach a class on set and lighting design this spring semester at Austin College.

"When I first graduated from college, I always thought that I would be teaching theatre at a college somewhere. Little did I know (20 years later) that I would get that opportunity, and at the college that I graduated from," says Webster Crocker. Webster will be teaching set and lighting design, and will also be designing the set for Austin College's performance of Ibsen's ROSMERHOLM also to be performed in the spring.

Webster teaches theatre workshops for kids ages 4 to 8th grade and has for seventeen years, as well as been in charge of the design and construction of over 125 sets with SCP. "I have seen kids start in the Theatricks program, and go on to bigger and better things in theatre elsewhere. That is what I think SCP is all about, the promotion of the arts in our community and beyond," states Webster.
