Webster Crocker, our stellar Theatricks director, is happy to announce the cast list for our upcoming production of Roald Dahl’s children’s tale The BFG, adapted for the stage by David Wood. Rehearsals are now underway and things are coming together nicely! The show will run July 9-11 and 16-18.

The BFG follows the story of young Sophie, who, when her birthday party plans go awry, decides to act out her favorite book with her friends. They follow the story of a girl who befriends a big, friendly giant. Together they explore dream country, hide from evil, less friendly giants, and even work with royalty to save England from disaster.

The role of Sophie will be played by Allyson Smith, with the BFG played by Sean Strother. Sophie’s friends helping her reenact the story at her party include her boring older brother Guy (David Stephens), Daniel (Matthew Maxwell), Samantha (Hannah Bowers), Katherine (Kenzie Baca), and Rebecca (Alexis Palmer).

In Giant Country Sophie and the BFG must hide from many mean giants, including Fleshlumpeater (Emily Flanders), Bloodbottler (Anna Romm), Bonecruncher (Alexis Palmer), Meatdripper (Olivia Johnson), and Childchewer (Kenzie Baca). Luckily, they are fortunate enough to escape, and wind up meeting the Queen of England herself (Leah Martin) and her faithful (yet easily startled) maid Mary (Jessie Noblett). Along with meeting the Queen, the two are also graced with the presence of both the heads of the Army (Mathew Maxwell) and Air Force (David Stephens), who assist them and the Queen in making England safe from giants not quite as friendly as the BFG.

The production staff for The BFG includes Webster Crocker as our wonderful director, Drew Crocker and Joey Oliver as Assistant Directors, Austin College intern Matthew Varvir working with lights, Gay Green as Costumer, assisted by Lexie Thornhill, Austin College Intern Libby Brooks as Properties Master.

The BFG is sponsored by Caskey Orthodontics, and Theatricks’ 2009/2010 season is sponsored by the Sherman Council for the Arts and Humanities. Tickets for The BFG will go on sale beginning Monday, June 5 for season members and the general public on Tuesday, June 6.A children's favorite, the well known story about twenty four foot high giant and a little girl is recreated faithfully for the stage. At Sophie's birthday party, family and friends act out the story using props and puppets in an improvisational manner to show how good can triumph over evil. A true "whizzpopping" time will be had by all.
